Greetings
from the Burning Man Town Hall Meeting!
Dear Friends
and Family,
In April, Burning Man held its annual Town Hall meeting at the
SOMarts building in San Francisco. The meeting is usually scheduled
the same weekend as a Flambé Lounge event, so that people
traveling into town can participate in both. The Town Hall meeting
gives groups a chance to set up informational tables, meet members
of the community, and connect with volunteers. The Café,
and our fabulous comrades in Camp Arctica and the Commissary,
had a row of tables, displays, slideshows, signs, and a handful
of eager folks ready to answer questions about our projects.
The meeting
gives the organizers a chance to speak to the community, and gives
the community a chance to ask questions of Burning Man in a moderated
forum. This year's event was moderated by Howard Cohen, a friend
who built the Desert Nose, is part of the Camp Roller Disco, creates
wearable glow-in-the-dark polymer jewelry, builds wonderful art
projects using Cool Neon (he even taught me how to solder!), and
has helped on the Burning Man database team. You see, almost everyone
in this community is a multidimensional renaissance person!
The Senior Staff - about a dozen incredible individuals who have
dedicated their lives to the production, preservation, and evolution
of the Burning Man event and community - provided updates on some
of the big accomplishments from the previous year and plans for
the upcoming event. Questions asked at this meeting ranged from
curiosities about the art theme to very specific inquiries about
porta-potties, ticket prices, and the future of the project.
