Greetings
on Friday in Black Rock City!
Dear Friends
and Family,
Black
Rock City is in its full glory now. The artists have completed
their installations, the theme camps have pulled out all their
tricks, and the city is a thriving metropolis, overflowing with
art and inspiration. Every time you turn around, something is
there, that wasn't before. It's impossible to keep up, or to see
it all, but we all still try.
The
Gate stopped selling tickets for entry last night. This helps
insure that people will live here for at least a couple of days,
and become a part of the community, instead of potentially cruising
in for just one night, spectating, and leaving behind a bunch
of trash or otherwise disrespecting the city. It seems sort of
silly, since most of us want to live here as long as possible,
but in any group of substantial numbers, there are always a few
who just don't get it.
This
afternoon, we have a "secret" belly dancer invasion
planned and tonight is one of our Floating World theme music nights
with aquatically inspired entertainment from the Mermen and Taos
Hum. Our friend from the East Coast, Terry, is going to do live
oil projections which is a risky venture in a land prone to dust
storms.
